“In the current world climate, Australians are more focused than ever on creating beautiful and functional spaces in their own backyards,” says Rachel Poilly from the Early Settler buying team. “Whether relaxing with the family or entertaining friends, we’re all spending more time at home.”

With this year’s focus all about harnessing the holiday-at-home vibe by increasing comforts and uplifting spaces, the buying team has honed in on a selection of stunning, inspired and nostalgic themes: Retro; Nature; Tropical; Australiana; Floral Blush; and Birds & Butterflies.

6 new themes

Embracing mustards and burnt orange tones, the Retro theme draws influence from bygone decades. True to its name, the Nature theme contrasts leafy greens against vibrant colours with flower and insect motifs. Putting a vintage twist in the vacation vibe, the Tropical theme is made up of lush palms and ferns to transport you to paradise in your own backyard. The quintessential Australian bush and protea theme, the Australiana range boasts a luxe mid-century palette. Pink tones and large blooms rule supreme in the soft and stylish Floral Blush look. Pretty winged creatures are backdropped by vintage-inspired patterns and hues for some old-world elegance in the Birds & Butterflies cushion theme.

“Outdoor cushions provide a low-cost, simple way to decorate your space. Choose bright vibrant tones if you don’t have much colour in your outdoor area and have fun mixing pattern and sizes together.”

“Outdoor cushions provide a low-cost, simple way to decorate your space,” explains Mamta Johal from the buying team. “Choose bright vibrant tones if you don’t have much colour in your outdoor area and have fun mixing pattern and sizes together.”

The big colour trends this year are warm tones and beautiful greens with lush motifs that blur the line between indoor and outdoor living, says Rachel.

“My favourite collection is the tropical cushions, which are inspired by lush green spaces, giving you that tropical holiday feel in your own backyard.”

Eco-friendly fabric

Designed for outdoor living, each cushion cover is made from PET plastic, which is recycled into a surprisingly soft and durable yarn.

The production of this fabric is very environmentally friendly. In fact, it’s a greener fabric than cotton, wool, silk and rayon, so it has a very low carbon footprint. All of the Aruba cushions in the outdoor collection have a GRS (Global Recycling Standard) certification.

“I love this material as it’s 100% sustainable, which helps to minimise the vast amounts of discarded plastic bottles polluting our oceans and ending up as landfill around the globe,” says Mamta.

“Additionally, it doesn’t absorb liquids so it’s ideal for outdoor areas — just store your cushions when not in use to prevent sun fading.”
