Hamptons Style Outdoor Area

5 tips from the Style Curator

As editor of the award-winning blog, Style Curator, when it comes to all things design-related, Gina Ciancio has got it down to a fine art. Gina shows us 5 simple ways to achieve a Hamptons style outdoor area.

1 Keep larger furniture neutral

White furniture, rattan and timber all fit the Hamptons style to a tee. This traditional design style predominately features a soothing colour scheme of pastels, all-white or soft grey. So, keeping your furniture neutral is a great starting point.

“The Blake dining table and bench offer are a stylish twist on the classic picnic table design. And those Byron wicker-look dining chairs capture the essence of beachy chic.” – Gina Ciancio, Style Curator

2 Choose accent colours wisely

The traditional Hamptons aesthetic incorporates accent colours inspired by the sea – think deep-blue, ocean-green, coral-pink or sand-beige hues. The tan tones and textures I used in this styling project are trending and fit the neutral Hamptons palette.

“The key to nailing the Hamptons style is to channel ‘timeless elegance’. This style blurs a relaxed coastal aesthetic with luxe sophistication.” – Gina Ciancio, Style Curator

3 Play with pattern

This classic decorating style loves a print. Gingham, stripe, paisley and floral patterns feel right at home in a Hamptons-style outdoor space. Actually, they’re kind of essential!

“Bonus points if you find pieces made from linen, jute and other natural materials.” – Gina Ciancio, Style Curator

4 Use a summery scent

All of our senses affect how we experience a space and our sense of smell is a big one. When relaxing or entertaining outdoors, set out a few scented candles in beautiful candleholders.

“Those white textured pots from Early Settler also scream Hamptons style.” – Gina Ciancio, Style Curator

5 Tie the look together with décor

Luxe elements of marble and brass paired with coastal-inspired pieces, such as hyacinth, will tie your outdoor Hamptons space together.

“Top it off with lots of plants, or the faux variety if you don’t like the maintenance.” – Gina Ciancio, Style Curator
