Go green at home

We’re all looking for ways to go greener at home and Dulux has taken it literally. Their colour choice for the year 2020 is Tranquil Dawn: a gentle shade of light sage with a pinch of grey that seems to instantly soothe the soul. From mint to moss and pistachio to pear, green in all its versions has long been a favoured shade of stylists. Refreshing and sophisticated, some well-selected shades can transform your space into a restful retreat to offer an escape from the hectic modern world. We’ve got some ideas for incorporating more gorgeous greens into your interior design.

Tranquil dawn

Dulux says that this colour “embodies the nation’s mood”. It represents the yearning for connection in an era of digitalisation. “A new decade heralds a new dawn and the hazy pale green tones of Tranquil Dawn are calming and comforting just when we need it most in our lives,” said Dulux’s UK creative director, Marianne Shillingford. “When paired with neutral pastels and rich jewels it becomes incredibly powerful at creating spaces that encourage making better human connections.”

Natural selection

As the colour of nature, green communicates harmony and balance. It also symbolises restorative properties and nurturing. When making a colour choice, first ask yourself if this shade actually resonates with you. You may be attracted to the idea of a more harmonious home, yet if you simply don’t like green, you’ll never feel at ease. If you do decide to go green, there are literally hundreds of shades to choose from. Use a colour app to ‘try on’ various shades in rooms until you find the right hue for you. A forest green, for instance, adds sophistication, whereas a mint green is playful and suited to relaxed spaces. Tranquil Dawn sits somewhere in between.

🍀 Luck of the Irish

Richer shades such as emerald and jade are reminiscent of precious jewels. They feel slightly more luxurious for those seeking a more lavish setting. A feature wall, for instance, can offer an instant feeling of opulence. But if you’re not ready to make that kind of commitment, luxe goes next level with some velvet emerald accents. Emerald green is also the colour of St Patrick’s day and a lovely way to soak up the luck of the Irish. Stylish glints of metallics beside your emerald accents also amp up the elegance. Complement your green accessories with indoor plants to heighten the soothing ambience and connection with nature.
