It’s hard to believe we’re nearly in the year 2020. While flying cars and hibernation pods haven’t hit the market yet, comfortable outdoor furniture in cutting-edge designs and materials is better than ever. Early Settler’s head buyer, Monica Porter, has identified the most stylish pieces and major trends for the season. The mix-and-match look, natural and reclaimed materials, and colourful accessories with a tropical vibe are all the rage. She’s compiled a list of her top outdoor furniture buyer’s picks for 2019/20.
1
“It’s all about mixing and matching this season,” says Monica. “Don’t be afraid to mix textures and colours to suit your own style, or blend old favourites with new pieces.” Choose your favourite table and pair it with the chairs or benches of your choice to customise your own look. Couple timber with wicker or faux-concrete with powder-coated metal to tailor your set to your outdoor setting.
2
Materials with an environmentally-friendly origin are more highly sought after than ever. Our Reclaimed Teak Cross-Leg Table is crafted from recycled timber sourced from South-East Asia. This piece is the ultimate entertainer available in 2.6 metres, 3.2 metres and a titanic 4 metres in length. When you can fit 10–12 guests around this beauty and dine on the deck, expensive restaurants can become a thing of the past.
3
Practical pieces that are easy to move and store are also in popular demand. “I love our new Madden aluminium bar table on castors,” says Monica. “You can roll it into the sunshine or out of the rain, as required.” We also have a number of stackable outdoor chairs crafted from powder-coated metals in a range of colours. They’re ideal for outdoor parties. Best of all, you can stack and store them away when not in use.
4
“More than ever, people are looking to create that holiday-at-home vibe,” says Monica. “Homeowners are opening up their living areas to their decks or patios and furnishing these spaces with a tropical resort-style ambience.” Among Monica’s picks for this year’s new outdoor sofa range are the Livorno set, the Silas (pictured at top of page) and the Poppy sofa (pictured here), which is available in white or so-on-trend teal.
5
Complementing both the natural look and tropical theme, outdoor accessories adding vibrant pops of colour are a hot trend of 2019. The Poppit side table / stool is made from kiln-baked clay glazed in turquoise, orange or charcoal, while the Marien alfresco rugs and Aruba range of outdoor cushions add style, comfort and colour to outdoor spaces and have an eco-friendly edge as the soft fabrics are made from recycled PET plastic drink bottles.
